New Catalog Homepage

Online services at the Metropolitan Library System just got even better. The library catalog, where customers can search for over 1 million library materials, will go through an extensive transformation over the Labor Day holiday weekend. The current catalog will migrate to new software created by TLC, The Library Corporation.

The new software offers additional options for finding books and other items. Now searches can be limited to what’s on the shelf at one location, or search and request items from all libraries as usual. In addition, catalog users can narrow their searches by subject, series, collection, genre and more. Search results will show extra resources, like articles from encyclopedias, newspapers, magazines and even upcoming library events.

“With the integration of our downloadable books and audiobooks within the catalog, customers can access digital items directly from the catalog search results and download them with fewer clicks,” explained Kellie Delaney, Manager of Web Development and Support. “They will also be able to automatically download their digital holds when books become available, and suspend their holds. We’ve looked into doing whatever we can to provide a better experience for our valued customers,” she concluded.

A separate Kids’ Catalog features large photos and icons to click. Children who are familiar with tablets will be comfortable with the book carousel layout, and enjoy the touch screen capability. Kids can search or browse by subject.

The new catalog has features which gives customers the option to read and write reviews, rate titles and search for author, title or series read alikes.

Don’t have a library card yet?  Apply for a temporary library card online that allows immediate access to downloadable material and online database subscriptions. Visit a library with photo ID and proof of residence to obtain a permanent card with full benefits.

Check it out online starting Sept. 2 at catalog.metrolibrary.org. Online services will be unavailable starting Friday, Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. and physical library locations will be closed Saturday, Aug. 30 through Monday, Sept. 1 for Labor Day and to complete the upgrades.
